This is a nursery update.
Our ECMO baby is improving.
Yes...I said *IMPROVING* Whatever the Gods have in mind for that little one, it seems to be progression towards life. In the last couple of days she began improving enough that today the weaning process from the machines was slated to begin. There had been no decision as to what part of the day, but mom was there and she was ecstatic!
So, since once babies are taken off ECMO they cannot be put back on it, things must be going VERY well. I'll keep you updated.
Our little fellow who was moved back to Bay 1 is slowly improving as well. They said that one of the telling points will be when he gets fed for the first time. That also had not happened by the time I left today, in fact, he was still pretty heavily sedated, so again, when I have news, I'll pass it on.
We had eight women in Labor and Delivery today; it's likely that some of those babies will find temporary homes in the NICU, so I might see some new wee ones tomorrow. I do know we were supposed to have a set of 29 week twins coming in today. It's amazing to me to think that 30 years ago when my twins were born, multiple births were still fairly uncommon - not rare, just not common. And now, twins and triplets are seen routinely. Must be how Ma Nature is keeping the population on Her terms instead of letting we humans decide how many babies will be born!
