Robert is going to try to go back to work next Monday. The doc gave him the thumbs up to work "as tolerable".
At first he'll probably try to work about four hours a day and increase from there. Eventually, he'll be back to his old schedule and blessedly, I can work back towards mine.
It undoubtedly sounds selfish of me, but six weeks sequestered in a house with someone who has no hobbies but television is wearing to those who live around them. And, it seems like such a waste; it's good to stay informed with world events, but once around the favorite stations should be enough for the day. Then a body should try to back to life that is more....local.
I wonder what happened in his childhood that made the television so blasted important?

And now, yet another boring post about my teeth!
I spent a really restless night. When I could sleep, I did so, very well. But a large portion of the night was spent feeling the new appliances in my mouth. And they didn't feel like teeth - more like an actual appliance, like a refrigerator or something!
You see, the theory is that keeping the things in your mouth the first 24 hours helps with not only swelling, but with a certain amount of pain control. And, your brain has to relearn not only how to talk and eat, but also how to put your jaw back into a better alignment than it had with horrible teeth. (Mileage may vary according to the denture problem.)
The bottom partial is a temporary, designed to be replaced in several months depending on how my jaw heals. The temporary is a wild guess/hope that will work for those needed few months. So, it's not made with the same kind of sturdy materials that the upper partial is made of.
And, as expected, it was loose and rocked around in my mouth once the swelling began to subside. It kept me awake most of the night; I think I had a strange notion that I might swallow the thing in my sleep!
And, of course by morning one side had totally popped off the tooth that anchored it.
So, I took the thing out and managed to eat breakfast and such, only putting it back in for the dental appointment.
My dentist had to do some modifying of the piece. It had rubbed a couple of places in my mouth to tenderness. She got that under control and allowed that it was probably necessary for me to use some kind of dental adhesive to help anchor it.
So, today has gone far better. I tried to eat pizza (cold leftover) at lunch, and that was a challenge, to say the least. My gum tissue is still too sore.
This should make the diet plan work far better since I really have to think about each thing I put in my mouth!
And, I don't have to sleep with the blasted things in at night, although my dentist allowed that if Sam Elliot or Sean Connery wants to take me to bed, I could sleep with them in. ;)
I'm not certain whether I should buy an "Old Fart" t-shirt or just feel fortunate that I had options! You will have to tell me when I get a picture posted. Fake teeth just seem like such an elderly thing to have!
I'd still like to beat the crap out of the psych patient who decked me and started this whole chain of events in the first place!

Glad R. is going back to work, even part time will do you both good.
My hubby has upper dentures. He never had any problems, just learning to speak properly again, which took him no time at all. Now he comes home, takes them out and eats just about anything. My guess is you'll be there soon as well.
Good luck!
I'm glad he is going back to work Kate, you deserve that. ;-)
Hang in there with the teeth thing, I can't imagine going through this so you've got my respect darlin'. And don't forget that younger people end up with falsies too ya know, so this does NOT make you old!
