When I get out of work on time, I generally arrive home and take some time to play with Libby, change clothes, eat breakfast or lunch...or both!...before I start on my tasks. Since Robert seems to control the TV once he gets home, I will watch a bit of TV, catch up on what's going on in the world so I can do so without his editorial viewpoints! One of the shows I end up watching is one on the Travel Channel in which people look at three vacation homes and then pick one to purchase. I spend each day absolutely flabbergasted because these people look at *VACATION* homes that cost anywhere from $300K to $4 million bucks! And as they go through these places, they bitch and moan and carry on that the kitchen is too small, or they won't be able to entertain properly, or the bedrooms are without closet space, etc. Or, it doesn't have a boat dock or some such nonsense.
At least it's nonsense to me!!!! Good grief! This is a place they're only going to spend a few weeks a year in. Sure, maybe they will rent it out, but even so, that's a huge chunk o' change to spend!
I guess I haven't seen enough of the world to want to plant roots in two places like that. Well, of course there are exceptions. I'd move to Scotland or Ireland in a heartbeat, and make the USA my 'vacation' spot. LOL But, there'd be very specific guidelines on how I'd even want to do that!
Maybe I'm weird, but I hope if I'm ever monetarily wealthy - so much so that I've got lots of extra money to blow - I hope I will remember these times when it's hard to pay the bills on time, and have food to eat at the same time. I'd rather be able to help other people than be so damned greedy I had to have some sort of impressive place to BS people with.
I'd be happy with just a little cabin in a beautiful spot to get away to.

One of the boat companies hubby worked for made "luxury fishing yachts". The biggest one they made was 54ft in length and retailed out at 3.5 mill.
People would come in and start nitpicking on the littlest things on these boats...the wood wasn't the right color. The bedding was wrong, the tub wasn't long enough, etc.
I used to just sit and marvel that they were so concerned with those things but the thought of parting with that kind of money never even registered with them.
I've seen some of those shows about boats. Was your hubby interviewed on any of them?
I'm definitely a champagne person on a beer budget. And, I know that a lot of these wealthy folks do many good things for people, but when they get on these shows and whine about kitchens that aren't "big" enough, when they're already willing to spend zillions of bucks on a vacation home (or even their first home!) I can never figure out why they don't do what the rest of us might...either keep looking, or reduce the offer price so they can afford to remodel the damn thing to their specifications. Or *gasp* buy a cheaper place and remodel?
Boggles my mind.
No he wasn't interviewed for any of them. He did appear on the cover of Motoryacht Magazine one time. He was driving the (at that time) Rampage (50ft one I think) so the magazine could do a photo shoot of the goofy thing in action.
I call him my 'cover model' every now and then. (he hates it! LOL)
Oh boy did I mess that up! It was actually the Cruiser 4550. Ugh! Too many boats to keep straight!!! Anywho, heres a link to the article and the pics they took. They're kinda small but you get the idea of the product anyways...

Geezlouise I'd be actually HAPPIER with a comfy little cabin by the water than have that kind of whining problem.
I always wondered something about those dream homes and dream boats.....
Why would people get into something that the upkeep costs alone are more than the average ceo's annual salary?

It doesn't make any sense to me! I wish they'd run shows that are a little closer to the median income. Wonder if we'd have as many problems in the world if people didn't think they had to have so much?
