Whoops...

If you want to make sweeping changes to your department that affect the lives of all your coworkers, make sure to say the right things to the boss when he talks to you about your desire to move to the overnight shift.

Say things like, "Well, I'll *do* it...but only if you meet MY terms," when he actually offers you the position so he doesn't have to jump through all the hoops to get the job listed by HR.

Don't get your co-workers in trouble by constantly telling them that the boss doesn't mind if everyone comes in ten minutes late; it's covered in the union contract that apparently you have the only copy of...but since you never got in trouble for it, everyone else began drifting along...till everyone got in trouble at the same time. Then we find out that you'd been warned that if you came in ten minutes late all the time, you'd be out of a job.

Yes...she actually did tell the boss that he had to meet her terms in order for her to take an overnight position. Was he amused? Nope. He said something to the effect of..."Your terms? I think it's more likely you're going to have to meet MY terms."

Yes, she actually did get almost everyone in the department in trouble for coming in late...me among them. I got chewed this morning because I was late three days last week. I'm not late often. Last week when I was only getting about an hour of sleep per day, I just couldn't get out the door; my boss recognized that and overlooked two of my goof-ups. I thought that was more than fair.

People who've worked at BHTS for years have come out of the woodwork on this and have emphasized that we do not have to take ten hour days. But, if we ever would do so, then we're stuck with it forever. So, those who want that had better think long and carefully before they jump off that particular bridge.

Time for me to suck down the cough meds and hit the sack. Can't be late for work. *grin*
