It's official. I've been offered the job in the NICU. I've known about it for a couple of days, but the powers that be asked that those of us who were hired to please keep it quiet till they could notify everyone who did not get one of the positions.
So, I have to talk to the supervisor tomorrow regarding a start date. I'll be glad to start anytime, but it may work out best for me to just start in after I get back from my vacation next month. I'll just have to see what she says. When I know more, I'll tell y'all what's happening.
Of course, Miss Tattle has been all over this like stink on youknowwhat. She's come after me with a vengeance, snide remarks, trying to undermine my standing with the rest of the team by insinuating things. For example, she made a public spectacle of herself in the lab today. She and two other people were doing a floor together; they had about 9 patients each. I was in the same pavilion with my trainee, so was not working terribly fast. We then went to two other floors to help finish up, and give my student more "stick" opportunity. Then we went to the floor I was actually assigned to go to after finishing my assignment, but I knew that floor had five people working on it.
But did the fact that I wasn't even supposed to be in the vicinity of Miss Tattle's floor make a difference to her? Noooooo....she had to make the attempt to publicly embarrass me by making an issue of "You're supposed to help your whole pavilion, and I didn't see you coming to help us. I always come help YOU. Uh huh...right. Yeah, the last time she helped me I blogged about it here. It would take awhile to find it in the archives.
She is such a mean-spirited soul. I didn't even bother to respond to her. Let her keep picking at me. She might not like the result if she keeps it up. She's been going around the lab telling folks that she doesn't even *want* to be a lab tech...because "she doesn't like that whole atmosphere".
Well...this new lab tech is not going to be working in a lab all the time, but with the babies. Not only is Miss Tattle mean-spirited but she's jealous.
Gee...all she needs to do is learn how to type 15 words per minute and she could be a lab tech too! Funny, isn't it, that she has conveniently forgotten that she blabbed all over the lab that she couldn't be a lab tech because she couldn't pass the typing test?
At any rate, I'm glad to finally have a chance to leave that department, stretch my wings and get some new things learned. It will be an adventure, I think!

WooHOOOOOO!!!!! I am so happy for you!!! I know you will do an excellent job, can't think of a better person to work with those new little souls :)
I'm thinking it's a big relief to get away from Miss T and the other trolls on your current area as well...
Congrats again Kate! I know it sounds cheesy, but i'm proud of you!!!
Congrats Kate! I figured you'd land this one no problem! :-)
F*ck Miss T and anyone who looks like her. AND the horse she rode in on!!! LOL

I knew you had the job! You could always point out to her the next time she says she doesn't want to be one, that that's handy, since she can't pass the typing test!
Congratulations! This is a marvelous development, and I suspect it simply heralds more wonderful news in the future!
Congratulations -
Congratulations on the new job, that's great!
and
Congratulations on being the bigger person, on not taking her bait, and on behaving with such dignity.
Well no wonder you've sounded so happy, confident, on top of the world the last couple of times we've chatted. With my mind being in a blender 90% of the time, don't assume I know the latest on your job situation. Deepest congratulations, Gentle Lady. This is a win/win scenario. A win for the kids you'll be working with, and a win for you to get out of your present situation. I told you not to get too worried about it when you didn't hear from them right away. All my best, Kate. Aussieshep
Thank you everyone! I'll keep you informed of my trials and tribulations as I go through it all!
Congratulations, Kate!
Working in the NICU will be an experience of a lifetime, I'm sure.
Take heart regarding the negativity. I always figure that people like that are stuck in their own heads and that's punishment enough -- what could be worse than being stuck in such a nasty place?
Thanks, Robin! You know I'll be thinking of Miss Tattle's head sucked into itself every time I look at her. Should make it easier to stand back and enjoy her bitching with a smile on my face - which will undoubtedly make her even more irritated! LOL
