FINALLY! After spending way too much time researching all the various travel sources, I finally booked airline tickets for vacation. Sheesh.
First came all the research. Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline, various airlines. I have yet to be happy with the travel websites like Expedia. They give lots of information, but I still got my best deal right from American Airlines website.
So, Robert and I are off to Florida for 6 days in May. He was stuck at home recovering from knee replacement surgery when I last flew down there. He'd like to see all the things I told him about on that trip. Naples is a really pretty city.
We ran into my cousins, Pat and Barb when we were down at the casino about ten days ago. Pat, of course, was with me in Florida; we were the two who did most of the things for my aunt. Barb, Pat's sister, stayed behind to keep their mother calm as she could, considering the last trip down was when Monie passed away. Barb's husband, Darald, traveled with us on that trip, so Barb has not ever been down there, either.
I asked the girls if they wanted to go along. They are considering it; I hope to hear back from them in a day or two, for I want to get hotel reservations, car reservations, etc. made. I wonder how much it will cost to rent a Jeep for five or six days? Gotta have some kind of vehicle with a removable top when in Florida, don't we?
Whether the cousins go along or not, it doesn't matter. Robert and I are planning to rent some kind of suite that has kitchen facilities so we can save a bit by eating some meals prepared by us. Robert is looking forward to eating at the restaurant that served really good alligator and authentic key lime pie. I'm drooling at the memory of it myself!
We had so much to do last time, closing up Monie's condo, taking care of burial arrangements that it will be nice on this trip to walk the beach and know we don't have to hurry back to take care of a doctor appointment or whatever. Not that we minded, of course, but it will be fun to vacation without some of those constraints.
And, flying...ahhhh...I love to fly. Sadly, though, I won't be able to fulfill my vow to eat Cinnabon rolls at any new airports. I've already sampled the wares at all airports I've booked this round. *sigh* I may have to indulge, though, to make sure that the quality of said cinnamon rolls is still good. One can't be too careful about things like that.

Ahhh...... vacation. What a lovely thought!
I hope you have tons of fun, irregardless of who does or doesn't go along :)
Yeah...vacation....ahhhhh....
Our plans will probably be different if it's just Robert and I, mainly because it's easier for two people to decide what to do instead of what five people want to do. Robert and I would like to go someplace to see manatees; I've loved them so for so many years - I'd like to see a living, breathing creature, you know?
My cousin-in-law, Darald, is absolutely fascinated by the wealth in South Florida and can spend hours driving around looking at mansions and high-rise condos. I think I can safely say that Robert and I would rather be out exploring the beach, botanic gardens, little unique shops and points of interest in that arena. I found an airboat company that might be fun, depending on the cost. We'll just have to see what happens!
If you make it any where near Orlando, let me know!
Torch!!!!! *great big hugs!!*
I've missed you! I don't have your email, so we have to figure out a good way to contact each other. If you still have my email addy, send a line or two my way so I can get back in touch with you with my new address and cell phone.
We need to catch up!
We lived in Daytona Beach for a couple of years, right on the waterway between the mainland and ocean-side. Every morning I would get up, open up the curtains on our enormous bay window and watch everything from dolphins, to small sharks, to Osprey hunt and play over the water.
We had a small school of manatee come through one time. I was lucky enough to catch sight of a mama and baby. They were so fascinating!
My favorite memory though is watching the Oct.'98 shuttle launch with John Glenn, from that big living room window!!!
Oh wow, Trace! All those things would have been awesome! Someday I hope I live in a place where I can watch nature right outside my windows.
Mmmmm vacation!!!! Sounds great Kate, I can't wait until May now so that I can live vicariously through you! LOL
A guy in a forum I belong to just got back from a vacation where him and his wife SWAM with manatees (scuba diving) and he posted a couple of underwater pics of them. So cool!!!
Well, I'm not planning on taking the laptop at the moment, so I don't know if I can update you 'during', but I'll tell y'all about it when I get back!
Oh, was your friend in FL? I looked into a place where one can scuba with manatees, but it's way up the coast and I'm not certain we'll be able to get there. But I did find a place that supposedly guarantees you'll see manatees or they'll give you your trip free!
It would be my luck to be on the other side of the boat and miss seeing one. And, that would be the only one spotted during the trip...by EVERYONE ELSE on the boat! LOL
He was in Belize. Gorgeous!
