Yes, it's true. I don't believe in the Hell of the 'hereafter', but I do believe such a thing exists here on earth. And, everything gets to experience it.
If you are tender-hearted and get queasy easily, stop reading now. You may have heard this on the national news - but it definitely was the hot topic on the local news at varying times since the charges were filed.
Here is the condensed version of news reports regarding this animal cruelty trial which concluded a couple of weeks ago.
Today I had a regularly scheduled lunch with some friends. One of the friends I hadn't seen since last August, so I found out that she was one of the rescuers who aided the horses.
The total horse count was 63. Emaciated. Starving. Dying of thirst. They were "adopted" by horse lovers all over this area; people whose goal was to bring them back to health. Some of them were too far gone and had to be put down. But, six months later, many of these horses are changed animals. My friend wanted to adopt one - but another one wouldn't take 'no' for an answer, so she's got two of them. She showed pictures of them "before". It was far worse than most anything you'll see on the animal cop shows on Animal Planet. Today, these are changed animals, healthy and loving, they are being trained by my friend.
If you've read the link, the pot bellied pig mentioned was so weak and thin that the rescuer easily picked it up and put it in the back of the car to keep it safe from getting trampled by other, somewhat stronger animals who were desperately trying to get to the food that was provided.
I asked if other horses rescued had fared as well as my friend's. She said that five had not made it, but not because of the cruelty, but because they happened to be struck by lightning out in a pasture. They were under a tree which got struck. The concussion knocked them over and killed them instantly. But, these horses had known a loving touch from humans before they met their demise.
Now, get this. I asked how on earth these people came to have 63 horses and all the other animals. Apparently, these people have taken it upon themselves to "save" the horses from the dog food factory, and purchase them from the well-known horse auction in Kalona.
Yeah. They save these animals from the dog food factory only to let them slowly starve to death. Makes tremendous sense, doesn't it? (heavily sarcastic, folks)
Sentencing on Olin and Wendy Andrews comes at the end of January. But, get this...they've already gone back to the judge to appeal the lack of animals at their farm...they need cats and dogs to help control the rodent population, they say. And, apparently the judge has given them permission to have some animals for this purpose; truth told, I'll bet he doesn't know how far these people have gone, but they are being monitored carefully. Seems that they've brought around 20 dogs and cats back to their property to control the rodent population.
HUH? Something WAY wrong there if you've got to have that many to control the vermin. I've been around many a farm in my growing up days and I have seen lots of cats at times, but never 20 of 'em, and unless there were puppies, most farmers I knew didn't have more than a couple of dogs unless it was a huge operation requiring herding dogs.
People like this should not be allowed to have animals. Period.

Aww those poor helpless animals......that story just makes my stomach ill!!
WTF??? Is the Jude mental or something??? How could he aprove of these people to have more animals after that? Ugh!!!
I honestly believe that people who do such things have a special spot reserved for them in the everafter.
That was real bright on the judge's part to allow them to bring dogs and cats back to their place. And I'm with you Kate, why do they need 20? What kind of infestation could they possibly have?
Holy crap, in Trace's comment I thought she was calling ME mental!! ROTF!!
I saw that too Jude, LOL!
Whoops sorry Jude! I got so wound up that I let my fingers get outta hand!
You let your "fingers get out of hand"???? Where did you put them, on your feet? ROTF! Sorry Tracers, ya know I loves ya, but I'm teasing!
Did any of you know that there is 3 kids that live in that home as well. When is anyone going to go help the kids!!!!!!!!!
I don't believe there has been any issue over the children in the household. If you know something, please let us know what's going on.
i totally disagree w u guys cuz i was there the day of the seizure and i no that there was nothing wrong w thos animals. i have animals my self and i no what skinny ones look like.but if u need info heres some.I HEARED THAT THERE FISH WERE ALSO DEHYDRATED!!!!!
WTF?????? I don"t think that the kids health is any of your B.I buisness!!
You know... it's really SAD that people believe 100% of things they see on TV and hear in the news. It's so negatively biased against the Andrews' because that is what MAKES news!! Have you EVER considered the Andrews' point of view in all this?? The fact that they have been literally TERRORIZED in their own homes by the general public after this completely blown-out-of-proportion and sickeningly UNFAIR incident?? The fact that their beloved German Shepherds and Cow Hearding dogs were mercilessly put to sleep by the Cedar Valley Humane Society due to "behavioral issues" (albeit NOT medical issues) and then were found NOT GUILTY on the neglect charges for those dogs... This is cruel and heartless treatment of HUMANS in my opion!!!
The reason that MOST of those horses were so-called underweight was because they had JUST been brought home from Kalona to, YES, save them from the glue factory. As I'm sure you all know, it takes a while to rehabilitate animals to a healthy state and you KNOW if those animals were taken to Kalona what kind of condition they would've been in. You don't think many of these animals were neglected BEFORE they came to live at the Andrews' farm? Consider the fact that Wendy's personal pet horses (the ones ridden regularly) were in fact NOT in that type of emaciated condition lends itself to show the TRUE nature of their care at that farm.
I beg of you not to let the media win this one!! Get the WHOLE STORY before you judge someone. Since God did not make us all perfect, I would take a good look in the mirror before pointing any fingers. Don't let this story turn you all into gossiping fools.
In my opinion, Wendy and Olin's hearts are in the right place. They are good people who don't have much, but who would also give you the LAST shirt off their backs if you needed it.
I agree with "anonymous" above. There are always two sides to every story and in order to be respectable human beings, we always need to consider the flip side.
Where are you guys getting your numbers from anyway?? They don't have 20 dogs... most were put to sleep by the Cedar Valley Humane Society and it wasn't due to their health.
FYI... because of their missing cattle dogs, packs of coyotes have been coming into the barn and helping themselves to livestock, feasting nightly on their egg-laying chickens and compromising the safety of their other animals. Not to mention the rat population that have now grown to the size of rabbits, which the barn cats used to keep under control before reaching that size. Not to mention the poor little boy who cried his eyes out when he found out his favorite cattle dog was never coming home because the CVHS put her to sleep and I quote "She was the best dog a boy could ever have". (Gives you chills doesn't it??)
Yes, you are right, there is HELL on earth and apparently it's what the Andrews are now living after the fall out of this nightmare.
Death threats and vandalism are criminal acts! The kids are innocent in all this, but are sharing the nightmare with their parents. C'mon folks, leave them alone and focus on your own lives, not theirs!
