A Tip of the Glass....

in celebration!

I started out my first day back at work by looking for Warrior Baby. I wish I had details I could report to you, but I don't, darn it! But the good news is....
SHE'S GONE HOME! Yippeeeeee!!!! All the best life has to offer to you, Warrior Baby!

and sometimes you just need a drink...

As Warrior Baby steps out, another steps in. So, now we have Warrior BabyB.

BabyB is a twin. I haven't met the womb-mate yet.

Warrior BabyB's story is also sketchy at best; I caught glimmers of it as report was being given this morning as I drew her blood. In fact, she may not be a girl at all - I was so caught up in the story as I worked that I just plain don't remember, because there came a point in the story where it was all I could do to remain calm. You'll see the part when it comes by.

BabyB has some sort of illness, disease, or genetic mutation which will, for her entire lifetime give her the sense that she's always hungry. Even more so, she'll think she's starving. From what I thought I heard, it's something that fits somehow in that group known as "special needs" The nurse was commenting to the other about similarities that are looked for in Down's Syndrome kids. When I find out the name of the illness, I'll let you know. From a physical standpoint, the most noticeable thing was her hypertonicity.

But, what makes my blood boil is the frailty of human nature. Although I did not know this before, it sounds as though any parent of a child in NICU who cannot be with their child is sent home with a pager, so they can be notified immediately about changes in the condition of their child, both positive and negative.

Apparently Mommy and Daddy have two other healthy children at home. I'm sure that keeps them busy. However, Mommy never bothers to call to check on the twins. In fact, it sounds as though Mommy doesn't even return pages from the hospital when they want to update her on the babies' condition. And, when she does get around to visit, she only stays for about five minutes, and she will not touch these babies...at all.

You see, she was sure she was going to have two healthy babies and now that it hasn't turned out that way, she wants nothing to do with them.

It pisses me off. Royally. For now I'll spare you my rant about giving up parental rights to allow for adoption from folks who desperately want babies, even those who will be challenged throughout their lifetimes.

Do I want to "deck" these parents. You bet I do. They don't know, or probably care, but they just plain LOSE!

Maybe the mother is just in shock? Or denial? Most people never encounter disabilities personally in their lives. So when confronted with one unexpectedly they don't know how to handle it. Maybe the parents will be able to accept the children once they've gotten over the initial shock of the situation?

So happy to hear about WB going home! Thats wonderful news! =)

That's just so sad. Maybe mom will come around. She could just be in denial.
God Bless them.

That's great news that WB went home! And as for the parents in this post, I hope Tracey's right and they'll come around. Poor babies.....
