News From the Nursery

Just a quick update. And good news, too!

Warrior Baby has been moved from Bay One to Bay Four. That indicates that her health is improving and she doesn't need quite as much watchful care as she would get in Bay One.

I was panicked for a few seconds this morning when I saw that someone else had moved into her room.

I made sure I asked about her weight when I went to draw her blood this morning. I was told her weight this morning was 850 grams, which translates into roughly 1.87 pounds!

And remember last week when I said she cried when I stuck her? I need to elaborate on that just a bit. She cried, but it was soundless because at that time she was still on the vent. She's off the vent, but still on O2, but now when she cries, it's out loud. And, it's beautiful music to my ears, all things considered, even though it makes me sad that I have to stick her.

It's wonderful to see her grow right before my eyes.

Today was a first. I went in to draw another former tenant of Bay One, who had been moved to Bay Three.

She was awake this morning, stretching herself into alertness. I went in, ID'd the little one, per protecol, and chatted with her nurse.

Then I glanced down at her when I said my usual, "Hi, Sweetheart" and there she was...just looking up and smiling a beautiful baby smile at me. Awwwww....

Everyone I know who has worked with babies has the same love for the sound of crying. I hope you hear it a lot. :~)

And a smile -- how precious!

My sister's preemies (two years old now) are doing so well. I got to spend a lot of time with them this summer. I still think about how tiny they were in the NICU.

Definitely a place of miracles.

I tagged you for a meme if you feel like it, Kate. No problem either way.

xoxo,

Robin

Thanks everyone. These Warrior Babies are truly gifts from the Gods and I'm honored to be able to do my small part in helping them get well.
