Of Four Year Old Fingers

Grandson Luke at age four is still of the age where childlike enthusiasm and curiosity takes a higher priority than all those silly things the grown ups say "no" about.

But there are times I am glad I'm Grandma, and not Mom. I think Luke must be the child that Jared's mother wished on him, just as I wished Laney on Lyn. (You know the Mother's Curse? "I hope you have a child just like you!")

Jared has a vending job that has him leaving the house around 3 a.m. and returning some 12 hours later. So, on his day off, he does what he can to be around the kids. Today was no exception. Jared wanted to go play basketball with his friends, and generally always takes Luke with him.

Jared plays basketball with his friends at the U of I Fieldhouse. It's a neat old building that's still used for swim meets and gymnastics, but has handball courts, basketball courts, exercise equipment, and so on. It's a neat place for a grown up; I'm sure it ranks at "totally awesome" for a four year old!

Though Luke stays pretty close *most* of the time, that doesn't prevent his mind from working in creative ways. A couple of weeks ago, Luke investigated one of the exit doors - the kind with the push bar - it let him out, but locked behind him, so Jared had to go on a hunt to let the kid back in.

Today's trip involved more excitement. Luke stayed pretty close to Dad's basketball area after the lock out of the previous visit. But, as that infamous checkout magazine says, "Enquiring minds want to know...." something caught the lad's attention.

Pretty soon the announcement came to clear the building. Seems Luke had found the fire alarm...and pulled it.

I just shook my head and laughed.

I have one of those here! Monstergirl was forever going off on her own tangents and getting to alot of situations that at the time were scary, but later were good for a chuckle.

Luke will always be a source of amazement, bewilderment and pride, guaranteed :)

But no matter what he does, it's a source of pride and amusement for Grandma, right? Hee hee

LOL. It's hilarious when someone else's kid does it.

He's good! They don't usually hang fire alarms very low. Methinks he might be clever like Grandma. ;~)
