We've been expecting it since yesterday, but the freezing rain began about 9 a.m. this morning. There have been periods of plain old rain, which is not a good idea...for when the freeze begins again, it adds one hellova lot more weight to the trees.
Our neighbor to the north just called in a panic. She wanted us to get our cars out of the driveway, as it's looking as though one of her trees is going to fall.

So, we've just come inside from scraping 3/4 inch of ice off the windows and putting the vehicles out on the street - believe me, we're not crazy about having them out there, either! But, thankfully, there is little or no traffic; everyone seems to have hunkered down and is staying put for the most part. Travel definitely not recommended!
I'm not sure what to think about my own trees, either. I've taken some pics through the front window, and you can see how low the branches are hanging.

I also took pics of the icicles hanging from our gazebo roof on the back deck. Those icicles only began forming at 9 this morning. As I was taking the pictures, a tree in the neighbors tree behind and "down one" cracked and broke and is hanging there.

Most of our electrical is underground, but the main street is still above ground. We won't be surprised if we lose power, truth be told.
Dolly went out on one of her mythical squirrel hunts this morning, slid across the deck and fell down all the steps. She's okay, and although the look on her face was priceless, I was really scared for a ten year old dog to take that kind of a spill. She seems to be fine, though.
Snow is supposed to start around 8 p.m. tonight. And, we're supposed to have winds that could reach up to 50 mph. Should be a fun night! Right.
Good thing I told 'em at work when I told them I'd take "call" this weekend, not to expect me if the roads were bad.
Just call me chicken if you will, but I don't do ice unless it's in my drink!

It's weather like that, that confirms all the reasons why I hate living up north!
Brrrrr!!!!!!
Wowsers, Kate! I hope ye and yers made it through the storm okay and that ye didna' lose power. Like many of us, I'm a veteran of that lost-power-after-an-ice-storm thing and absolutely dinna' recommend it for any kind of fun.
Sounds, indeed, as if ye're in for an interesting night. Down here in balmy Missouri, we're having a cold rain right now. Last I heard, we're only supposed to have about an inch of snow the nicht.
Good luck to ye.

Trace: The weather we got yesterday was more like what Arkansas gets on a fairly regular basis, or did till weather patterns started to change. Today they had tornadoes, not ice. Not sure which is worse.
TW: I remember your ice storm very well! But you were without power for something like five days, right? And, I'll bet you're still using up some of the wood we cut and stacked after that storm.
