Yep, today's the day - it's my birthday! It's pretty anticlimactic, though. Robert remembered to wish me happy birthday this morning at 3:30 before I left for work; nobody at work remembered it was my birthday.
The girls and their spouses are taking a much needed "breather" weekend in Chicago, so we celebrated Laney's birthday on Wednesday. She and I share a birthday, so I had to pretend it was *my* birthday, too, for Laney's sake. A three year old hasn't figured out dates yet. But the presents? Now THAT'S important!
I found a birthday message from Kirk on the answering machine when I got home from work, with a call a few minutes later. We spent the afternoon together; we went out to lunch to Village Inn, because he likes it and Marsha doesn't. And then we goofed around, poking through a few stores. I ended up buying myself a Sting CD, and a DVD I've been curious to see.
Oh, and I baked my birthday cake last night. So, I'll have a big ole piece of it tonight.
But, other than that, it's been pretty quiet. No presents other than what I bought for myself. I guess when you're an old woman you're not supposed to care about presents! (Tell my inner child that!)

At least the children didn't give me this birthday cake!

Happy Birthday Kate! Oh yes, your inner child deserves presents. Should we all gather at your door steps sing Happy Birthday to remind everyone you deserve gifts as well?

Thanks everyone! Of course my cake was delicious! Easy as can be, too...I'll post the complicated *NOT* recipe for anyone who wants to try it. But not for a day or two...it's almost my bedtime!

Trace - I spoil myself far too much, but I figure I'm months, no years, behind on movies and music, so I don't feel too guilty!

Jude - My MIL gave me a bit of money for my birthday, so that was very nice. I have to admit total puzzlement that the kids didn't give me anything; either I've been a very bad Mom lately, or maybe they've got plans for something for Christmas. *shrugs* Oh, well, there's nothing I can do about it now! The world's not going to end just because my inner child didn't get presents!
