The Eyes have it.

Matt G had a blog post today about a recent eye surgery. Sure don't envy him going through that! But, it reminded me of a story when my oldest was three years old.

As a note of explanation, I was very nearsighted, and when I was 16, the docs decided that contact lenses might shape my cornea in such a way that it would halt the progression of the myopia that kept going to bigger and bigger negative numbers.

Of course, dinosaurs were walking the earth then, so it was in the days of hard contact lenses. And, I wore the things faithfully, because I looked so much nicer with them; sure beats that old "coke" bottle effect.

And, Vaughn watched me put them in and take them out most every day.

One day as I fed the kid her lunch, I was visiting on the phone with a friend as she finished up. Since she was usually ready to get down and get back to playing with her friends, it suddenly occurred to me that she was still sitting very quietly at the dining room table.

My phone had a realllllly long cord, so I walked in, still chatting and looked at the child who had her head bent over the table.

She looked up at me. I almost dropped the phone.

"What are you doing????!!!!" I asked the child who had cottage cheese all over the side of her face.

She looked up at me and said in that little girl voice, "I'm putting my contacts in, Mommy."

Yes, she was shoving cottage cheese in her eye.

We still tease her about that.

Holy crap!

Funny story. I'm glad you didn't have to tell it to an ER doc. :~)
