Home repair

And so it begins. We ordered replacement windows for the front and south side of the house, and they came in last week. So, the guy came today and began installation.

Today's project was replacing the "picture" window in the living room. It wasn't much of a picture, though, because though this was a modern window when the house was built in the early 70's, it had outlived it's usefulness, except to block air, so to speak. And...it didn't even do that very well - our living room is on the northwest corner of the house and it's always cold in winter and hot in summer.

So, we replaced it with a smaller bow window. The installer had to build the wall up about a foot or so, and put in the new window. It has an oak ledge that I'm sure the cats will love. And it's actually making the room appear larger. I like that. Tomorrow the drywall will get taped and mudded, and the other three windows will be replaced, or at least, he's hoping to get them all installed. Then it will be time to figure out new window treatments. Oh joy. I'm sure my ideas and my checkbook won't meet on that one!

Now, if the other contractor will just get us on the schedule and get my ceiling repaired where the chimney used to be, I could get the room painted and actually feel like I could have company over again! If I could do that video thing that Bob and Jude are doing on their blogs, I'd show you, but I haven't a clue HOW to do this --- yet!

And, there's a brief synopsis of my "exciting" day! Catch y'all later!

Oy vey! We had our windows replaced last July. Lots of mess and clean up, but worth it!

Kate, all you need is a digital camera that has a microphone built in it. Then the videoblogging (or vlgogging) is easy! I'll tell you how if you have the camera, sweetie.

Have a great week!
