News From the Nursery Lab 2008 - 6

The happy notes from the NICU is that four babies got well enough to go home this week! We were all so excited!

But on a more somber note:

I'd like to ask you to remember a new NICU baby with your prayers. This baby was transported to BHTS from another hospital. The baby had a stroke in utero, and was not breathing upon delivery.

Resuscitation attempts were given, and perhaps for too long a time...the baby was brought back to living and put on life support. Subsequent tests have shown the child to have no brain function, but the parents are insisting at this time that everything possible be done to keep their child alive.

Please pray for this baby to have an easy crossing when her time comes, and for the parents to accept the situation for what it is, even though the decision they must make will be one of the most difficult things they've ever done.

And on a more humorous note:

I was heading over to the Mother-Baby unit to draw labs a few days ago, and one of the unit clerks stopped me.

"Kate! I met your son yesterday!" she exclaimed.

I looked at her quizzically, wondering just how her life might have intertwined with Kirk's. From what I know of her, there's not a whole lot of overlap in their lives that could bring them together, but hey, I don't know everything, after all!

"Where'd you meet him?"

"I met him right here. He and his wife were touring the unit."

And then her eyes got huge and she clapped her hands over her mouth. OOPS! HIPAA violation!

I just laughed. I'll just remind her of it when Marsha goes into labor that the best room on the floor might be a really good way to make up for letting something slip.;)

Yay on the four leaving and definitely prayers for the new WB.

Thanks, Trace. I had this weekend off, so as much as I hate to say it, I hope that the WB found her way to the angels sometime in the last two days.

I hope so too Kate, poor darling babe. Definitely she is in my prayers for angel arms to surround her with love. And for her parents who will grieve....

Such great news on the 4 other WBs!
