It's that time again.
Time to work up my courage and get my hands all goo'd up with punkin guts.
Why am I not bright enough to grab a pair of gloves from work when undertaking meatball...errrr....squash surgery?
Is it possible that there's just enough kid in me to want to relive that feeling of "Ewwwwwww!!!!" when digging through the glop? I suppose so, or maybe it's just a latent hope that this year I'll create a Halloween masterpiece. Occasionally I've actually done something that is really impressive for me!
Last Saturday, Himself and I stopped by a pumpkin patch that is on the outskirts of our wee city; and the folks who did it are doing it right in my opinion. They planted a couple of acres of pumpkin in various varieties. As the season began, they mowed meandering paths through the foliage and brought only a small number of pumpkins up to the stand for people with no sense of fun :)
For the rest of us, they provided wagons and pruning shears and invited us to pull wagons through the patch and pick the size, shape, and color that we wanted.
My heart is always set on green pumpkins. This idea began when the kids were little and ended up heartbroken because someone stole their pumpkins and smashed them to smithereens. Green pumpkins hide well under bushes without being noticed in the daytime. And, at night they virtually disappear once the candles are blown out for the night. Hence, no smash-em-ups.
Besides, green pumpkins are downright pretty.
So, Himself and I wandered through the paths and ended up with two green pumpkins and one small orange one. I'm planning on carving them tomorrow. I even splurged and purchased an electric "pumpkin carving knife". LOL What can I say?
So, tonight I'm browsing through some internet sites looking for designs. I don't think I'm up for anything of this magnitude, though. It would sure be fun to try, though.
I'll take pictures if I don't ruin the beasties with my evil, wicked knife - which is the most probable result!

Sort of off-topic, but how about a picture of one of those green pumpkins with your new camera phone?

I am such a halloween hater. I've never liked the holiday and probably never will. Bleh.
I know, I know... i'm just no fun ;)
I would like to see your carving results though :)
Trace you'd make an awful witch, woman!! LOL
Kate I'd love to see pics too, no matter how the punkins turn out!
I've gotten lazy as hell in my older age, now I just have some of those bought styrofoam ones... they LOOK like real punkins and light up great in the window! (electric)

Ummmm...because I don't know if my plan allows me to do that kind of application? I did figure out how to take pictures with the thing, though, so I'm improving...

But, Trace, how can you hate Sam Hain's birthday? You should bake him a cake to celebrate;)

I've got those too, Jude. And, lazy is not a bad place to be, either! But, I wanted to do them in case the grandbabies had a chance to come over - gotta start training those young witchlings right, y'know? LOL

Perhaps if I knew who that was???
It's kind of a joke, Trace, but it puts the humor into a fairly serious Pagan holiday. Halloween is known as Samhain in pagan circles. It's not pronounced as the spelling works out phonetically, but is actually prounounced "SOW-in". I'll probably post a little more about the pagan aspects of the day soon, but we've always made a joke about the common mispronunciation of the name and just said it is Sam Hain's birthday. So, whenever I get a chance, I bake a birthday cake for Sam Hain and sing happy birthday. ;)
Besides, it's an good excuse to bake a cake.
Ahhh..... ok, thanks for the info Kate :)
Maybe I will bake a cake ;)
