Just some things to share.
In a couple of weeks, all my little chicks will be living close to us again. Kirk moved home from Lincoln, NE. a couple of weeks ago, and his twin sister Lyn will be moving home in a couple of weeks. Lyn and her spouse, Jared, found a zero-lot line in Coralville, which is around 4 miles from my house. And Kirk and his girl live about...hmmm...1/2 mile from Lyn's new place. Convenience all around!
It will be great to have the *little* grandbabies back so close, and especially since Milana (Lainie) turns 1 on the 17th along with me - I'll be celebrating the 4th anniversary of my 50th birthday! LOL
Holidays and babysitting will be much easier!
The Iowa Sci-Fi convention (ICON) is this weekend. Unfortunately, it looks as though I'm not going to be able to go; I'm scheduled to work. Yeah, I know I could still go, but the events I'm supposed to be helping with are scheduled for late in the evening, and much to my dismay, I don't have the ability to keep late hours and then get up at 4 a.m. like I used to! And, I'm betting old and cranky enough to realize that if I push myself *too* hard, I'll be paying for it for the next couple of weeks! So, better that I keep a low profile and try to get my current knitting project done so I can proceed to the next one!
My boss asked me to help her teach tonight - she just got back from a hurried trip to IL, where her parents live. Her father is in poor health, and it doesn't look good. And, since we're pretty good friends outside of work, I suspect she'd like to talk to someone about what's going on. And that's okay.
I'm looking at different blogs as I have time, hoping to contribute to Orion's great "linky-love" idea. But, I'm not sure of the what the general polite way of doing things is - do you ask permission from the person to add them to your blog list? Or is it perhaps more appropriate to respond on their blog for several weeks and then ask? What's the PC thing to do?
I think it's time for me to go take a nap since I'll be out teaching this evening. I'm one of those who can't come home from whatever I'm doing and go straight to bed. I have to have some kind of down time first, so I won't go to bed right away after class. So a nap is necessary. I know the dog gets sick of Mommy coming home from work and going back to bed instead of taking her for a walk, but she doesn't mind cuddling up and sleeping with me at least!

Oh hey! You got spammed Kate! Now you can consider yourself 'official' in the blogiverse! ;o)
Ummm....protocol...well, I usually went and commented a few times and then asked for permission to link. But i've had people ask on their first visit as well, so I guess it doesn't really matter much.
The 4am thing stinks, doesn't it? I get hubby up at 4am for work and then I try to catch some more z's until it's time to get monstergirl up at 6am.
I'm sorry you don't get to go to your convention. I've never been to one, but I generally avoid large crowds in enclosed places. :o)
My parents wish we lived closer so they could see the grandkid more, but if I went back to my hometown or even my homestate, I think i'd have to be committed for life! *ugh* Enjoy having the little ones around though. I'm sure they're going to love being able to spend more time with you.
*ARGH!* I thought I had word verification turned on! Ah, well, I set it again!
Ummmm....Can't hubby get his own arse out of bed? LOL! That's what duel alarm clocks are for! Seriously, though, the alarm is on my side of the bed, and even though we're all big boys and girls around here, I still have to make sure I ask him every night what time he needs his alarm set for! (He works a varying schedule) But, he's really good about getting himself up and about finally because since I'm up and gone by 4:45, he's got to get up and potty the dog, feed the morning rounds and get himself ready to go. And, he's so decent about it by now, even on his days off he gets up most of the time and follows the usual routine and lets me sleep in. Of course, now I sleep in till 7 and think I've slept till noon! LOL
I'm not too upset about missing the convention. I've never been to one, so I really don't know what I'm missing! But I keep hearing folks talk about them and I'd like to see one. Kind of sounds like a sci-fi Mardi Gras!
You'd have hated being my kid if you'd have been my oldest, then! When Vaughn and Patrick got married, they lived right next door, and stayed there for the next six years till they bought their bigger house! But we were very careful not to intrude on each other - not that we didn't run back and forth at times, but we tried to use the phone as much as possible, which does sound silly, I know, but we didn't feel it was our place to be in their home space all the time. And, once we got the grandkids to realize that, no, they really didn't want to walk in on Grandpa or Grandma right after they'd gotten out of the shower, it was okay :)
Where are your parents at? I wouldn't want to move back to my hometown either, but darn it, I've only escaped from the home state once! But living around a college community makes it easier since I have to live where people aren't afraid of having a brain and how to use one. Can NOT go back and live in redneck rural! I'd kill someone! LOL
Hubby doesn't hear the alarm Kate. He's one of those people that you can literally YELL in his ear and he won't hear it. So every morning at 4am I have to get up, shut off the first alarm and then go over and irritate him awake. Blah!
My parents are in Michigan. I grew up in Midland, Mi. and it sucked then and it sucks even bigger now! I've moved all around and lived in several different states, but that is where I began. I'm sure Jeff has told you about it. He calls it pleasantville before it got color! LOL
Tracey sent me over and I'm glad she did. Good stuff!
Off topic, but don't highway construction delays get tiresome? ;-)
Hiya Kate! Trace sent me over again too, and I'm going to be coming back now often, so POST POST POST, girl! LOL!
Hey, in 5 months I'll be celebrating my 4th. Anniversary of my 50th. birthday too! **grins**
I usually do what Trace does, I'll post a few times and then ask for link permission.
See ya here again soon!

Hi Trucker Bob! Welcome to my little spot in the world. And, Jude, glad to see you stopped by again!
TB - Construction delays? Ugh. I don't know how you put up with it. We live in a "bedroom" community that is finally coming into its own and become a town with a shopping district and everything! And of course as it grows, traffic becomes impossible. There are 4 different routes into Iowa City, which is one of the communities NL "bedrooms" for, and all 4 of them have major road construction going on with them right now. When I go into town at 5 a.m., it's just fine, but coming home is a pain in the butt!

Jude - I have been checking into your blog and would love to link if that's okay. And, glad to know you celebrate "anniversaries" like I do! LOL!
