Early morning in NICU can be a place of frantic activity, or mind-numbing calm. But for the lab techs, we just have a large amount of labs to accomplish in a very short time.
But, if the day is somewhat slow, we have a bit of time to converse with the staff as we go about our tasks.
Such was the case the other day. We had a *very* light load of labs to do, so where and when I could, I visited with the nurses about non-work stuff.
One nurse, who I don't know well because she's a weekend-option only nurse (and overnights as well) was sitting at her station engrossed in a book. It was a hardcover. The only reason that makes a statement to me is because hardcovers cost so much more, I figure it has to be a pretty good book to spend the extra instead of simply picking up a paperback.
Since I love to read, it's a given that I'm going to stop and ask about the book - just in case I need to stop by B & N on the way home, y'know?
Kate: "What are you reading?"
Nurse stopping, closing book, holding place with fingers to look at the cover: "It's a book."
HUH?
And, she was serious. She went back to reading. I stood there for a moment, noted the hair color, and headed back to the lab. No further comment is needed.
No offense meant to those of you with the hair color AND the brains. You know who you are!

Pppfftttt! What a weenie! LOL
Honestly, that's just the sort of snotty attitude that I could never understand let alone abide. She's missing out on a lot if she snubs your friendship Kate. Her loss!
Oh geeze. Answers like that irritate the hell out of me! Ugh!
